I have been in a horrible mood the last few days, I have lacked the drive to get any serious work done and have not been able to concentrate.

On top of that, I did not realize this weekend is Memorial Day weekend so I have nothing planned right now for what looks like it will be a beautiful weekend.

On top of all that, family match making. I was talking to my Dad earlier this week and asked him how some family friends were doing that we spent a lot of time with when I lived in Louisville, KY. They are doing fine, but that got my Dad thinking and now he wants me to drive up to Kentucky so I can go get reaquainted with the family friend's daughter who is also 25. I remember her and know she is smart and pretty but I do not think that a relationship from Atlanta to Louisville is what I want right now. Also I just know this is another attempt by my Dad to convince me to move up there.

I dont know what I am doing with myself.

    Don't call it a comeback
Ok, I got what little butt I have chewed off for not keeping track of LJ since I moved outside the perimeter, which I had coming. I have been horribly busy lately but I will make an effort to keep things up to date.

Work has started to pick up a bit more but before I feel really comfortable with it I need to get a few more clients locked down.

I may be going to South Carolina this weekend, hopefully. My little brother, 20 years old and married, had a baby boy a couple weeks ago, well his wife had the baby but I may stop by and see him in Columbia, SC if I can go.

I have to say, lately I have missed not living downtown.

I hope everyone had a good Labor Day weekend. I went to Jacksonville and spent the weekend on a private beach on the Navy base there. I got a little sunburn but other than that it was nice.

My niece, who is 15 asked me when I was going to have kids. Now that I am 24, this is starting to get frustrating. I just wanted to scream. And then my cousin, who has 3 kids, my 15 year old cousin being one of them, asked me the same question.

Anyway, busy busy busy with work and I don't feel like doing it. :( I guess that is just part of the deal. I want to drink, is 2:30 to early?

    Update
It has been a very hectic week. Went camping w/ Carrie, Chris, Brian and Ed. Filed papers to incorporate a business Monday. The insurance company of the girl who hit my car gave me more money than I payed for my Civic 2 years ago. And this morning I bought a 2003 Mazda Protege5 which is a sport hatchback.

The company was created w/ a friend of mine from highschool, we are doing computer contract work involving websites, networking, and small application development and we do have a couple clients already.

    More good news
Saturday afternoon, on the way to the store, a young lady was to busy talking on her cell phone to notice the fact that the light at an intersection she was at was red. So you drove right out into the intersection while I was going through it at about 35 mph. At that point, Joe (my apartment mate) and I all got an excellent demonstration of the usefullness of the airbags and crunch zones in my Honda Civic. Several other drivers stopped to help and waited for the cops to arrive and testify that I had the green, so it was 100% her fault. Now my car is sitting in the lot of a tow company waiting to be assessed by her insurance so I can get a check.... It's not like I needed that car for anything like... oh looking for a job.

So now in the span of 2 days, I have been laid off and had my car totaled, I don't want to think about what needs to happen to top this.

    FYI
Got laid off about 2 hours ago. I knew the company was in trouble but figured there were a couple months left at least. It was a new experience I would rather not have.

Anyone need or know of someone who needs a programmer with 4.5 years of experience in various things including Java, C, C#, VB, databases, XML, and system admin?

    Reality check
The time is now 1:54 AM and instead of sleeping soundly in my bed, I am at work, working hard hard hard. Oh and last night at this time, I was also at work, working hard hard hard. In just Tuesday and Wednesday, I have put in 37 hours so far.

    This is so exciting!!!!

Ok, this is going to be quick. I went to see X-men 2 tonight w/ Alicia, Chad, David, and Stacy. It was fun. I liked it, especially the part were there were not a lot of cheesy one liners like a lot of other movies have now days. Also I liked the part where Alicia gave me a box full of chocolate covered cookie dough candy, I ate them all. They were good. They had a lot of sugar and now I can not sit still. I dont think I will be able to go to sleep soon.

    I love sugar.

I want to have hamburgers and hotdogs on Memorial Day, is anyone interested? I like them.

Work, work-out, work, work-out, have fun, work, work-out.... That has been my life in general recently. In fact its 4 in the afternoon on a Saturday and I where am I posting from? WORK!!

    Work involves several things:
    1. I need to install Bugzilla... the problem is that no one knows what all is on the Linux box we have, I dont have the passwords to needed accounts and the guy who has maintained the box just installs things whereever he feels like.
    2. We are about to install a bunch of software at the Shepherd Spinal Clinic and I need to do more testing on the library I wrote to handle HL7 (a communication protocl for hospital systems) packets. If that breaks bad things could happen to people who have already had bad things happen to their spines (and we dont want that).
    3. I need to help set up the Configuration System for creating and building new releases so that we can keep track of the various modifications we do for different doctors.
    4. Because I am the only Developer here who has formal training in Software Development, I am suppost to create a set of template documents that can be used for a Requirements Doc, a Design Doc, and a Testing Document.
    5. Related to #2, I need to finish writing the library for accessing a database through .NET that can be used both by my software and by a couple of long term projects that are in the pipe.
    6. Also related to #2, I need to write a couple thread packages that can be dropped into a server I wrote a couple weeks ago. They will use the HL7 library in #2 and the DB library in #5 to handle the communications we have to do with the other systems at the Shepherd clinic that we will be replacing in Phase 2 and 3 of the contract.
    7. Figure out how to get them to hire another Software Developer because there is just way to much stuff to do and way to little time to do it in.

That about covers it for what needs to be done by the end of the coming week. It should be interesting.

From the "Way To Much Information Department", the sales ppl are going to a medical software show for OB-GYNs (about 15,000 of them will be there). I had to learn way more than I EVER wanted to know about that field of medicine to help make sure things were ready for the show.

Now I truely know, It is GOOD to be a guy!

    Horrible day
Today was the worst day I have had in a long time. It started yesterday at 6 pm when the power went out at work, not by accident, the power company turned off the power to the block my office is on. That created a problem for my computer. When I got in this morning to work, I started my computer up and it would run for about 30 to 40 seconds and then freeze for 3 or 4 seconds (repeat). Then just for shits and giggles, it would randomly shutdown and reboot. One second writing code, next second, it is booting up and counting RAM.

We tried running the XP reinstall to fix whatever was wrong. That did not work, it kept crashing. We tried formating the harddrive and reinstalling XP, I got my self set back up and the computer kept crashing. So after spending a day trying to get the computer to work I am about ready to toss it. I guess some piece of hardware is messed up.

On top of all this, I needed to get the stuff I am working on done by tomorrow but I have spent the last 10+ hours trying to get my computer to run with out crashing every 10 minutes.

    Sometimes I really HATE computers.

Busy busy busy! I would like to go out and do something fun on at least 1 night this weekend. Last weekend I put in 14 hours in the office and was to tired to do anything. This weekend I will be trying not to do that. The sales people have just made several more sales which is very good (means more money so we are closer to being in the black) but that also means more work (cause all the projects I have right now aren't enough).

One of my projects has to do with an old piece of medical software called Dr. Dos. It is a piece of medical software made in the late 80's for doctors and the company's sales people chose its users as the ones to target first (they have about 350 customers total). We have made several sales and many doctors have said they would buy our software if we could convert their old data into our system. Well obviously the Dr. Dos company has refused to open their data format to us, so the VP gave me the job of reverse enginneering all the data files which are written in binary straight to disk. Now every time a person walks by me, they ask me how soon I will be putting Dr. Dos out of business. And I find that funny.

    Back to my hex.

The party at Cody's was a lot of fun. That was the first time I have ever eaten crawfish, and I must say I enjoyed them much more than shrimp. They tasted better, and eating them in a group like that was a lot of fun.

Woke up this morning with a hangover, but with some advil, I have made it in to work by 1 pm. There is no such thing as a weekend when working at a startup.

I accepted the job offer I got from the company I interviewed with Monday. I will be starting there on Wednesday the 12th. My manager here said he was suprised I had waited so long to go find a development job.

In other news, contacts suck ass!! Oddly enough, it feels like I have sand or something like that in my eyes all the time. I may end up just getting some glasses I can wear when I need to use them. My prescription is not bad, I can see fine as long as something is within 30 or so feet, I just have a hard time reading street signs while driving.

    update
I have been really busy this last week so here is a run down of everything.

Kung-fu is going well. I am almost back up to where I was when I left.
Got both wisdom teeth on the left side pulled, will get the next 2 pulled in about 2 weeks or so.
I had to have the c/v joint in the car replaced. That makes $800 I have spent on the car this month. Although that is pretty much all the money I have had to spend on it since I got it a year and half ago.
I had an interview this morning with the company Joe works at. As Joe said, all I had to do was show up to get the job. The CIO said he would call tomorrow to offer me the job assuming the other person he has to interview (because it was already set up) was not just the bomb-digity.
I got a Georgia Cruise Card, cause I am tired of stopping for the toll every time I go up to Kung-Fu.
I got my eyes examined today, and I am now wearing contacts.

    report
Ouch, that is probably the best way to put it. Went in to the dentist so that he could see my wisdom teeth and decide when we could schedule to have them pulled. He decided. He pulled 2 of them, the ones on the left, today.

I have some low level pain killers, nothing special. For obvious reasons, I could not go to Kung-Fu practice tonight.

For some reason the network connection in my apartment is acting funny. I can obviously connect to the internet. But I can not connect with Trillian or AIM, I cannot connect to the servers with the one online computer game I play, and half the time ping does not work. It is vary annoying and I am to hazy to figure it out. I tried rebooting the modem and the gateway and my computer in many different orders but other than that my mind can not really focus right now.

    Today
Work is very busy... so why I am posting to LJ? There are 3 projects that need to be finished all of them have due dates next week, Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. The one due Tuesday has such a high priority and is so behind schedule that I was pulled off of the one due Monday (me being the only person on it) and put on the Tuesday one. My project due Monday will slip at least 3 or 4 days.

Also, I am going to the dentist today to see if Dr. Bob, as Karen referred to him, can get these wisdom teeth out of my head.

On top of that, I need to get a Cruise Card for GA-400 because I grow tired of paying the 50 cents at the toll on the way to and from kung-fu practice each night.

And Joe's boss has said he wants to see me ASAP about hiring me to work up there.... why is it that I could not get this offer when I was unemployeed in say August or September? Oh well... If I were to work up there, the drive would be about as long as the Marta trip to BellSouth is right now, plus I will be up there next to the Kung-Fu school, plus I will be working with a friend.

    Things to ponder.

I started studying Kung-Fu again. A new center opened up on GA-400 near where Joe lives. For those who don't know Joe, he is a friend of mine from college who I lived with when I was not living with Marshall and who also did Kung-Fu.

Anyway, it has been about a year since I stopped practicing, for a number of reasons. But now that I can again, I am happy to be able to. The drive is 20 to 25 minutes to get there, but that is not to bad, since the place just opened up, we are his only students so we get a lot of personal time. The guy who runs the center, his title is Sifu (pronounced seefoo, its the chinese word for teacher and chef), is a pretty nice guy, he is a computer programmer and a network admin.

Tonight, was my first night and even though I am a brown belt (next is black!) I had to relearn all the old stuff before I could get new stuff. I spent about 30 minutes reviewing the white belt material and then did a quick test to yellow and then got half the yellow material reviewed before closing time. I am very excited.

Note to self: get a GA-400 card so I dont have to stop and pay the toll.
